A twentysomething married to the love of my life who happens to work for one of the big timer’s in the oil and gas industry. Throughout my undergraduate education, I studied international politics enough to know I wouldn’t step near a political career with a 12ft pole. I gave up a short, yet promising, career in Media Relations to join my hubby in the petro-capital of the world: Houston, Texas.
The quaint, and wondrously free, theme I’ve chosen for this blog is completely on par with the life of this petroleum wife. It is called “Elegant Grunge” and I couldn’t have described my lifestyle in a better way.
I can’t quite put my finger on whether following my husband and supporting his career instead of mine is a curse or a glamourous blessing in disguise. But for better or worse, I’ve decided to embrace my new lifestyle for all that it might bring my way. Join me through my oily and semi-opulent adventure.

Good luck on your adventures in the oil capital of North America! Who knows where this path in your life will lead? Regardless, wherever it takes you, you’ll at least have your husband by your side. 🙂

Whatever happens, at least when you look back you will know with total assurance that you were open to whatever life had to show you. There are not many who can make that claim with confidence.
Thanks for your kind words on my blog and I wish you the best of luck.

I say embrace it and go with your words, “a glamorous blessing in disguise”. Love it! Like you, I have followed my husband around. We seem to enjoy it and the girls (we have a 12 & 14 yr old with us) love to travel and are enjoying China very much. The one thing I miss aside from family are my girlfriends.
A friend of mine once said to me that I was living the life that so many wish they could. To travel around the country, to actually have time for my passion of photography, to be able to stay home (although there is a misconception that staying home is not work, ha ha), & to be able to enjoy life would be like a dream for her.
Thank you for stopping by Still Times and leading me back to your blog, I’ll be following along.
Cheers!
Maria

Thank you for your comment as well. You’re absolutely right, we’re lucky to be in this position and have to take advantage of it! We’re supposed to be heading to East Asia within a year and I’m definitely excited for that!
